Day 11 TH 6-17 First Impressions at Chadwick Bay

Say goodbye to Rece$$ion and hang out for a few hours to let the waves lie down. Done with showers, breakfast, and those darn dishes from the night before. The sun is peeking out and wind has decreased, so time for anxious Captain Ron to move. I remind him to smell the roses. You see, Ron likes it best when we are under way, while my favorite part is exploring the area after arrival.

Looking out towards the shoreline it is obvious we are out of Ohio. Mountainous terrain in the background and cliffs at the waters edge begin to be the norm. The colors of green, brown and yellow make for a rich looking shoreline. Although the wind has died down, there is plenty of energy in the waves and I am in jeans and a sweatshirt. It's a combination of conditions that makes me glad we are on the trawler instead of a sailboat.

We are literally rolling along and it is  2PM when we pass into NY. The NY fisher persons seem to be doing well today as we pass the boats, we encounter "fish on" at most boats. By 3:30 we are in clear site of Dunkirk NY with it's towering stacks poking up from the horizon.   Captain Ron is on stand by after entering the marina to wait for a spot to fuel up. We are blocked by a sailboat that was just splashed. Odd configuration at the fuel dock changes our mind about fueling.  We follow instructions by "Big John", as we have named him and look for any open spot on A Dock. It's hard to choose since they all are in need of major repair. We are hoping we can get electric service as most boxes appear to be in a variety of stages of repair. A young man is instructed to the docks to assist us and he grabs his boat hook and slowly walks toward the dock we finally picked. He is less than thrilled at our arrival.
By now I have decided that I am scared to stay here and get the hornet spray out for possible usage later in the evening. (I have been told the spray is better than a gun, since you can shoot from long range and do not have to be extremely accurate...just aim at the head). After checking in with Big John a little later, I realize that he is the friendliest of persons, and although the marina is in tough shape, we are amongst friends. We just have to be careful of the holes on the docks that look to be ankle breakers.

After a relaxing cookout, I am just ready to read and go to sleep, when.....Ron hears music from a distance. Oh, and then he hears a harmonica...Oh NO!!!! I realize I am not to get rested this evening as he changes into his "OLD Men Rock" t-shirt, thanks to John Schaffner and his band "The Lounge Lizards".

There was no doubt that we were likely to have  hangovers the next morning as Ron and I walked over to see what was up. A few Captain and Cokes later, Ron's playing with the band and has his own little groupies.

Wonderful, long day. And it's a first for us to be up past 11PM :)
