Day 33-35 Friday-Sunday July 9 , 10 ,11
Happy Birthday Terry Fleitz
Oh the comforts of home. We finally found one last night. I know it seems silly to many, or just primitive thinking...however...Hastings Marina has bathrooms and showers just like home with tile floor, fiberglass tub/shower and even a soft rug by the full vanity. OMG, I start my day in heaven.
Not that washrooms have been a problem...so far all very clean etc., but with concrete block and small stalls.
Forecast today is for rain and we start out with low visibility. Just as soon as the lines are cast, the rain begins. I do not rush for my foul weather gear because it feels so good.
Wild Goose II is headed to Peterborough for the weekend and it's a beautiful cruise with only one lock.
I start a new book to make this an extra relaxing day.
We,ve made reservations for Peterborough for the weekend. A pleasant surprise that there will be concerts tonight and tomorrow, with a rib cook-off all weekend including Sunday.
I look up from my book at the northern end of Rice Lake and I feel like we are in the middle of The Lake Erie Islands. One island looked like Green, and another like Kelly's.
It's rather cool.
Heading into the Otonale River, upscale homes on top the hills become the norm and on the natural wetlands on the west side of the river. Turns out the west side is the Hiawatha First Nation Reserve.
As we enter the harbour of Peterborough, many birds are diving for their dinners. There are water skiers, wave runners and fisherman scattered in the vast area.
A large fountain is to port and we see many boats that we have passed and been passed by during the last week already tied to docks.
Emery El, Tortuga, and Magoo are all here for the some part of the weekend.
We meet up with Bob and Vinney for cocktails on the upper deck of the marina and decide on dinner plans. We head towards the concert and find it's 5.00 each and you have to eat there at The Holiday Inn. I'm not into hotel food as a rule, so we head across the street to a grill that turns out to be a great choice.
Saturday, after a sleepless night for Patti, Ron and I head to the grocery and marine store to stretch our legs. The day is very pleasant and I go shopping at a "TJ Maxx" kind of store to find some cooler shirts for the two of us and a bigger back pack for bike riding.
Some new boats arrive from Ohio. Turns out they are from Port Clinton and Middle Bass Yacht Club. We exchange names and before I knew it, they had scattered. I think there are 4 boats. They know our house sitters Lew and Marty Johnson, and many people from PCYC (Schaffner included, but they made us promise not admit they said that) just kidding John.
Cookout, concert and fireworks top the evening.
By Sunday, Ron was tired of watching everyone catch fish, including the little redhead behind us, so he took the dinghy out fishing. No luck, and we went back out later in the day still without luck. However, I was pleased to have not had a bite since the others were pulling in Muskie and extremely large carp. Not sure we needed that in our dinghy!
