Day 30 Tuesday July 6 Six more locks to Campbellford

Maggo about to go over  cliff?

Can you say hot. I heard it's the same way at home too! We took off earlier today to accomplish 6 more locks.

Today there is some distance between some of the locks which might make it easier in this heat wave.. Most of the trip today took us along waters that we're full of cottages, kids jumping off their decks, all sorts of  fisher persons and people just hanging out by the beautiful clear waters. The water looks so inviting for a swim to cool off. To make our destination in the amount of time necessary to enjoy the town, we  pass by all of the logical places that we can safely do it. Tomorrow we'll be passing Healey Falls and we've been told that it is a "must do stop" to go for a swim.

I spotted a large turtle just coming up for air and couldn't make it to my camera fast enough. I am sure to get another chance, and if not, it's OK with me. I suspect there are tons of them hiding in the many marshes we pass. We've  been told to look for rabbits on the shoreline, however, ducks &  geese seem to hold rights to those territories so far.

Locking through is a bit easier today, with no major problems. I take lot's of photo's of Art and Sandy on Magoo. There are a few pictures that look like their boat will go to  the edge of the earth and fall.
It amazes me that early explorers, fur traders, lumberjacks, etc had the sheer will and wonderment to continue on in their primitive vessels searching for better lives, new territories, and new homes for their families and for their countries.
We settle in after the double lock of 11-12 at Old Mill Park. The market is just across the park, so after we check in, off we go to get some ice, water etc. We've gone through an amazing 14 litres of water aside the coffee and juice we had for breakfast. We lingered in the well air-conditioned grocery while the engine room of Wild Goose II gets a cooling off.
We celebrate another 117' of lifts and some breathtaking scenery by going out to dinner with our fellow travellers, including John and Fran, AKA Bob and Vinny, who have been travelling ahead of us.  They are headed home to Tennessee via The Mississippi River. Fran has been with Bob  the last 30 days, since his wife went home after the first 12 months of the trip to see the grand kids. He'll stay on for another 30 then someone else will replace him. What a voyage they have already done, and still have ahead of them. We are a bit envious, but , you have to start somewhere. The vessel they are traveling on is named Emery El (named after John's grand daughter). I will have to get a good photo  of it soon so you can all see it. It's a great vessel. A 49' DeFever Trawler with ton's of room and set up with all sorts of neat electronics and a computer station which he has kindly shared with us when we had no service from the marina's or parks.

Ice cream is in order for the night (now almost a ritual)...I always wondered about fellow cruisers at NCYC , like Skip  and Kris McCullaugh who always talked about ice cream. It seemed such a small thing to talk about in such detail , but now I know why, it so so good (must have secret ingredients up here) . The variety store  has DVD rental and we pick one up. Not sure we'll see the end, but can always watch the next day.
